A CNC machine (Computer Numerical Control machine) creates precision engineered components using subtractive machining technology. It does this by removing material from a solid workpiece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In CNC milling, the cutting tool in the machine rotates in the spindle \u2013 this cuts the material away from the billet. An in-demand form of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.m-cnc.co.uk\/news\/an-introduction-to-cnc-machining\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNC machining<\/a>, CNC milling can accurately produce <strong>highly complex parts<\/strong> to both large and small volumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How does CNC milling work?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; CAD drawing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The process begins with the development of a CAD drawing using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.m-cnc.co.uk\/capabilities\/cad-cam-programming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Computer Aided Design (CAD) software<\/a>. This will create a 3D design of the part, which is in turn used into a series of commands the CNC machine can follow to create the desired part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Shaping the workpiece<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CNC milling machines use subtractive machining technology to follow the steps of the CAD file. The machine <strong>removes <\/strong>material from a blank, original workpiece with a rotating cylindrical tool \u2013 this is called a <strong>milling cutter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Multiple axes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CNC milling machines have <strong>multiple axes<\/strong>, meaning they can create intricate parts to a high level of accuracy.
